Project Area Description

Kartal is one of the regions of the Asian side of Istanbul on the coast of the Sea of Marmara, southwest of the Kocaeli peninsula, surrounded by the Sancaktepe district from the north, Sultanbeyli from the northeast, and the Pendik from the east, and Aydos Hill is located above the highest peaks of Istanbul.

The origins of this ancient neighborhood goes back to the fourth century AD. It was famous during the Byzantine Empire as the fishermen’s village.

Kartal neighborhood has several components. It is one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Istanbul in terms of health and education. It includes Süleyman Şah University, Ozgan Sabancı College of Health Sciences of the University of Marmara, and the Maltepe University’s Nursing Institute. It also includes four government hospitals, three private ones and nine medical centers.

As for transportation, Kartal neighborhood has a strong transportation network that connects it with all parts of Istanbul, as it is located 15 kilometers from Sabiha Gokcen International Airport. The E5 road also passes by the neighborhood along with the road leading to the Fatih Sultan Bridge “Fatih Sultan Mehmet Köprüsü” over the Bosporus Strait. There is also a metro station located on the Kadıköy-Kaynarca line, as well as the coastal road linking the Baghdad district, Tuzla and Bostancı, and the express train connecting Istanbul to Ankara the Capital.

The neighborhood is located on the coast of Marmara which made it an important port, as it is considered one of the main ports through which you can access the Princess Islands and the town of Yalova. The neighborhood is also considered the largest real estate market on the Asian side. The urban transformation project that the Turkish government started about eight years ago has contributed in raising the region’s value residentially and in investment.
