Eyüp Sultan is one of the most beautiful historical districts in Istanbul, as it hosts many ancient sites visited by tourists from all over the world.
Eyüp is located along the Golden Horn on the shore of the Black Sea, and covers an area of
223.78 km2 , with a population of 345,790.
The presence of the mausoleum and the mosque of the great Abu Eyüp al-Ansari, who was given the title of Sultan by the Turks, are the main reasons this region was named “Eyüp”. The Sultan Eyüp Mosque is one of the most famous historical monuments in Turkey, and in Istanbul in particular. It is considered one of the most important mosques, seeing as the Ottoman sultans were crowned in Abu Eyüp Al-Ansari. The region also hosts the Pierre Loti Tepesi Turistik Tesisleri, which is located on a hill filled with trees, from which one can absorb the beauty of the Bosphorus. Pierre Loti Tepesi Turistik Tesisleri was named after the French poet Pierre Loti, who loved Istanbul and used to write his poetry at the cafe.
The cafe is considered one of the most important tourist landmarks, and it overlooks the Golden Horn, which can be reached via the municipality’s blue cable car.
The architecture is made up of traditional five to six story buildings, but modern residential complexes are also under construction. The area can be reached through the E5 and E80 highways, as well as through metrobus along the E5 road. There area also hosts several metro stations, and more stations as well as bus stops will be added in the near future.
There are many shopping centers in Eyüp Sultan, the most important of which is the Viland AVM, found next to the largest amusement park in Turkey, and wonderful bazaars as well as popular markets.
